It is the fundamental belief of the Netflix team that face-to-face collaboration is key to success, the challenge of preserving this culture of collaboration is well and truly underway. From the HR team’s initial ‘crisis management’ mode to now focusing on building team effectiveness, Rebecca Port, Global Head of HR, describes this transition period as both challenging and opportunistic.

Rebecca shares some key insights as well as Netflix’s strategies towards:

  • Enabling collaboration and team effectiveness in the home office, especially for working parents.

  • Supporting employee health, such as coaching employees to ‘connect’ and ‘disconnect’ with work.

Dr Rebecca Port leads the HR team for the Finance and Operations functions at Netflix.

Rebecca’s career started in the UK, as an academic. With a PhD in Occupational Psychology Rebecca created a masters program in Business Psychology at City University in London. On leaving academia Rebecca went into consulting with the global consulting company DDI, initially in the UK before moving to Mumbai, India to up their India operation. From India Rebecca moved to Singapore where she joined Standard Chartered Bank and held several senior HR roles, including Global Head of Talent & Learning, Head of HR Risk and Compliance, and Head of HR Europe and Americas.

Rebecca’s work has focused on helping leaders facilitate the success of their teams. She has won numerous awards for her work especially for helping build gender diversity in Finance.
